Wet and windy southern Scandinavia


Thursday
Low pressure centred across northern Europe brings extensive unsettled weather and thunderstorms, although areas surrounding the Mediterranean will see generally dry and very warm conditions. Much of Spain will be dry and sunny - topping 30C around southern Costas. A north-westerly breeze affects Portugal, whilst showery and cool conditions affect areas around Biscay. Hot and sunny for southern Italy, the Balkans and south-eastern Europe as a whole - temperatures well into the 30s Celsius, and locally 40C for Sicily and mainland Greece .
Meanwhile, central-northern Europe is much cooler, only 18 to 23C for France, the Low Countries and Germany. Areas of persistent rain and thunderstorms for many countries from Biscay to Poland, Ukraine and the Baltic states, also including the Alps. Up to 30C in eastern Europe. An easterly winds affects southern Scandinavia, with showery rain. Northern areas will stay largely dry with sunny spells. Highs of 20C in central Sweden and southern Finland.


Friday
Much of Iberia remains dry, sunny and warm, 28 to 30C for southern Portugal and Andalucia. A northerly breeze continues to bring rain to northern Spain. Showers for the western Mediterranean islands, also northern Italy. The central & eastern Mediterranean stays hot and sunny, again touching 40C for Greece and western Turkey. Temperatures into the mid-30s extend across Romania, Ukraine and the Balkans.
Much cooler temperatures across central & western Europe, only 16 to 19C for France with further outbreaks of rain. Showery for the Alps and Germany. Low pressure centred over southern Scandinavia brings strong winds, local easterly gales around the Baltic. Persistent rain for Denmark, plus northern coasts of Germany and Poland. Rain also affects the Baltic states and southern Sweden, whilst much of northern Scandinavia stays dry, and pleasantly warm, highs in western Norway reaching 23C.
